Together, we are looking to arm 30 student led-businesses with the funding and resources to build sustainable ventures.
ABOUT
START is a five-week, virtual incubator program for AUC college juniors and seniors in good academic standing with a clear business concept they want to launch. Open to all genders, the program will run during the Spring 2024 semester, providing participants with a roadmap and resources to build a viable business concept.

Anthony Kemp
Anthony Kemp is a Morehouse College student with a strong interest in tech startups. Academically, Anthony maintains above a 3.5 GPA, allowing him to be recognized as a Dean's List awardee, and receive a full academic scholarship provided by the Gray Foundation during his Sophomore year of college.
Anthony has had the opportunity to engage in various tech startups as a marketing intern through projects such as a professional profile website maker and supply chain optimizer platform. During his Freshman and Sophomore years, Anthony interned at Deloitte, the number one-ranked consulting firm worldwide, where he consulted biotech companies as a risk and financial advisory intern.
From here, Anthony gathered his corporate and startup experience to become the founder and COO of his own company called Logist, a social media platform designed for online debating. As COO at Logist, Anthony leads the onboarding of new hires, guiding the development team, and investor outreach. Whenever Anthony isn’t in a classroom or meeting, you can find him boxing with friends on the weekend or watching his favorite stand-up comics.

Ashley Casimere is the founder and CEO of VendU, a pioneering vending machine company aimed at revolutionizing access to essential items for college students. A political science major on the pre-law track at Spelman College, Ashley identified the need for convenient solutions for hygiene, beauty, and culturally significant products on campus. Her entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to innovation led her to establish VendU, where she has redefined the student experience nationwide.

Lomax and Center for Black Entrepreneurship Scholarships. Caleb founded two companies based on his entrepreneurial passion: GiveUp, a new software startup, and Prototype Clothiers LLC, a clothing brand. Caleb’s entrepreneurial leadership mentality drives his educational aspirations, as he is in pursuit of a law degree.

Chase Heard is a junior at Morehouse College majoring in Biology with a minor in Business Management. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Chase maintains a GPA of 3.5. In addition to his academic pursuits, Chase is actively involved as a student athlete and a member of the PHIDE biology fraternity.

Courtney Melvin
Courtney Melvin, a junior at Spelman College, is the CEO and founder of Locstar Hair Oils. Courtney not only seized the spotlight by securing $150 in the Fall 2023 HBCUFI pitch competition but also showcased her entrepreneurial brilliance. She seeks to empower black individuals with a deeper understanding of the chemistry of their natural hair. Her loc journey began her freshman year of college when she didn't know how to do her hair and was tired of not knowing which products were suited for it. That's when she had a simple yet powerful idea: to create her own hair care brand that is tailored to individual hair porosity levels. Courtney is also a First-year Study Group Lead and engaged in nonprofit work with PwC, where she has expertise in strategic consulting for nonprofit social justice organizations.

Nichele Washington is a Junior at Spelman College from Silver Spring, Maryland who majors in Political Science on the prelaw track and has a minor in Philosophy. She has a passion for equity and desires to advocate for the improvement of Black maternal health outcomes. Nichele has maintained a 4.0 GPA and she is a member of the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors program, the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the Social Justice Program as a John Lewis Scholar, and a fellow within the Spelman Innovation Lab. While her love for human rights and entrepreneurship inspired her to create a small business that donated 10% of its proceeds to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and the ACLU Racial Justice Program, it is her love for environmental justice that inspired her in 2020 to create Oshun, a zero-waste lipstick case that minimizes waste pollution generated by the cosmetics industry. As a digitalundivided START fellow, Nichele is looking to further develop and solidify the business aspect of this product.

As the author, founder, and CEO of the children’s book and business, My Roots Are Rich, Nyla Choates has been making waves in the world of entrepreneurship and social change. Due to her work in impacting children worldwide, she was recently honored as a 2023 McDonald’s Black & Positively Golden Change Leader. Through her entrepreneurial endeavors, she has had the opportunity to speak on stages at CultureCon LA, the BET Hip Hop Awards, and Afro Tech. She has been featured in ESSENCE Magazine, Revolt TV, and TV One. A native of Milpitas, CA, Nyla Choates is a motivated English major, President of the Spelman Entrepreneurship Club, 2022 Spelpreneur Pitch Competition 1st place winner, Center for Black Entrepreneurship Scholarship recipient, Amazon Black is Entrepreneurial winner, Black Girl Ventures NextGen Finalist, Blackstone Launchpad Fellow, and Target Scholar. Sinclaire DuPree is 20 years old and from Port Saint Lucie, Florida. She graduated early from Spelman College with an independent study degree in music management, which she created, and a minor in entrepreneurship and innovation. She has worked in the music industry for two years at places like Capitol Music, Sessions Atlanta, the Recording Academy, and more. Her passion is to bring fans closer to the music. In working at these companies, she identified a gap in connection with fans and how they benefit from the successes of people they support, especially in music. Applicants must be:
- Students enrolled full-time in their junior or senior undergraduate year at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College or Spelman College; and
- Founders of a pre-revenue business venture; and
- Founders who can summarize their concept in a couple of sentences and with a concise business vision; and
- Founders who are open to guidance and ready to build a sustainable, tech-enabled business

FAQs
Who is eligible to apply?
The program is open to any full-time undergraduate student currently enrolled in their junior or senior year at Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College or Spelman College.
Is there a limit to the number of times a student can apply?
We will only review the first application submitted per company, and founders are not allowed to apply as more than one company. We welcome applications from companies that include co-founders, especially those with leadership teams that reflect the mission of digitalundivided.
When and where will the START program take place?
All sessions will be held online. Sessions will run every Tuesday, from March 26, 2024 until April 23, 2024, 6-7:30 p.m. ET.
What will participants gain from participating?
The program will equip selected students with a competitive training in launching a startup including guidance on developing a business model canvas, identifying their customer personas and hypothesis and pitching their venture. All participants who successfully complete the program will have a pitch deck and will be eligible for a $5,000 grant.
What is the selection process?
Once applications close on February 26, 2024, we will review submissions and ask the semi-finalist to submit a one-minute video with their business pitch. Finalist ventures will be determined and notified - we don’t typically announce it publicly until the cohort starts on March 26, 2024. We will notify declined applicants before the public cohort announcement via email.
